Font/ masthead - typography 

NME stands for New Musical Express. NME uses the typical magazine conventtion of placing their masthead in the top left corner of the magazine, this is usually done with magazine names that are short and abbreviated. The masthead is a bright, bold red, used enage the audience from the distance. They have also put to frames (black and white) on the masthead to emphasise the letters. the font is s modern style, Gotham Ultra, this font is used to meet with their target audience of teenagers.

The masthead of Kerrang magazine is very clear with the mesage or mood they'd like to put accross to their audience. They have been consistent with their music genre of rock and heavy metal. The word 'Kerrang is onomatopoeic (the sound of an electric guitar). The font used contains many cracks and rough edges, this is used to connote the destructiveness of rock music. .

The font used in MOJO's masthead is 'true type', this font is very simplistic but modern at the same time. MOJO magazine have palced the words 'The Music Magazine' across three words within their masthead, this is not something that is done commony in the magazine industry so this therefore makes MOJO stand out amungst their rivals. The letters are in bold capital, and usually white. This enables the masthead to stand out due to the dark colours commonly used in their magazine.
