My main target audiences are females aged 16-18. The reason to why I chosen this specific target audience is due to my findings from my research; I found that the ratio of females to males who read music magazines was unbalanced as females read more magazines. After selecting my target demographic I listed down colours that were associated with females such as pink, purple and red, overall I found that women preferred softer colours as opposed to men. For this reason I attracted my audience through my colour scheme of different shades of pink, grey and red.
I was also able to attract my audience with my choice of cover lines. The reason to why this attracts my audience is due to the names of the artists I included (Beyoncè, The Weekend and Adele), these artists are very prominent within the R&B genre of music, this has been proven within my results from my target audience research, where I found that Beyoncè and The Weekend were artists that almost all of my sample were currently listening to.
Direct address is an essential feature used to attract audience, the fact that my main image has the featured artists making eye contact and also one of my images in my content page, presents my used of direct address.
From my research I discovered that one of the key things that attracts people ages 16 to 18 are competitions, exclusive features (such as interviews, or specific charts), and free incentives. Knowing this went on to include a very niche list of top R&B hits from 2015. And also a competition section on the contents page.
How did you attracts / address your audience?
Question 5:
Another way in which I attracted and addressed my target audience is through the price of my magazine. As it is a monthly magazine the price is expected to be an average of £3 and above, I discovered this through my magazine research. During my target audience research I came across the National Readership Survey (NSR) demographic categories which uses the occupation and social status of individuals in society to group them. However I noticed that the overall majority of my target audience of age 16-25 do not fit into these categories due to occupational reasons. This means that their income distribution will be very low, or they won’t have any. For this reason I decided to price my magazine at £3.50 so it would be affordable for my target audience and so high prices wouldn’t put them off. But at the same time, the price is suitable for the amount of content within the magazine.
