the number 27 is a very significant freature of the pae as there are two ways in which numbers can be written; in figures or in letters. Essence magazine have chosen figures, this is a key technique in ganiing the audiences attention as it is easier and quicker to read as opposed to letters.
The masthead of this Magazine is very simplistic as only one colour has been used, and the letters are in block capital. the fact that the colour of the masterhead is pink correlates to their taget audience (females), due to the fact that the colour of pink is associated with females.
The main image is of Solange Knowles, she is a R&B singer songwriter, and has generated a large fanbase through this. the fact that her sister is Beyoncè Knowles, also adds to her fanbase. This therefore assures that her fans will be attracted to the magazine just by looking at the picture. On top of this Essence has hteir own fans, who will also purchase the magazoine. the main image is very vibrant, and her complextion is edited to look very vibrant and clear. The main target audience are black women, they have met with their target audience by using a black iconic singer/ songwritter
